Karaoke competitors across the island had 3500 reasons more to belt those notes. Rock Hard Cement and Preconco Limited partnered with Media-Link Productions, to bring Barbadians the Pre-50th Anniversary Island-wide Karaoke Competition.
The competition featured 11 of the island’s best karaoke singers, one representative from each parish. 11 preliminaries were hosted at the respective parishes’ top karaoke joint. In search of the performer that would represent their parish at the finals on October 29th, 2016 at Weymouth Police Sports Club. On the night of the competition, the karaoke singers performed for a panel of judges which included veteran singers Ishaka McNeil, Eleanor Rice, Ricky Jordon and of course, the crowd. They performed a song of their choice, then selected a song by a local artist to perform in celebration of Barbados’ golden jubilee.
Ultimately, it was Rebecka Carter from St. Thomas who emerged the karaoke queen and walked away with the coveted Grand Prize of $3500.
Clifton Henry, organiser of the competition gushed over the fact that this grand prize of $3500 was the largest grand prize that has ever been paid out by a karaoke competition in Barbados; thanks to their partnership with Rock Hard Cement and Preconco. “The largest amount paid out before this was $3000 but we wanted to go bigger, so we added $500 more.” Rock Hard Cement and Preconco have both confirmed sponsorship for the 2017 competition.
